WHAT IS SUMMER DREAMING?
A female-led, alcohol-free music festival, coming to Melbourne’s Inner North in autumn 2019. Organised by a group of young women, Summer Dreaming is an event that tackles the gender imbalance in the creative industry, both on the stage, and in its development.
The full-day event will focus on the role that music and art play in creating community. Located in Melbourne’s inner North, the event will be accessible to patrons of all ages. On one stage, Summer Dreaming will shine a spotlight on a predominantly female and gender diverse line-up. Alongside the concert, there will be creative activities for all members of the community to participate in.
GENDER DIVERSITY IN MUSIC
Summer Dreaming recognises the challenges young women face when entering the creative industries. Women are chronically disadvantaged in the Australian music industry and are underrepresented in the front line of festival lineups, music events and behind-the-scenes in organisational roles.
The music industry's movement toward a more diverse and inclusive space has and continues to create burgeoning business opportunities. This means creating events and opportunities for women and underrepresented minorities. Increasing diversity in the music industry creates new and interesting spaces that makes a broader group feel more welcomed and comfortable.
The Summer Dreaming team consists of young women who are passionate about representation in the music industry, and are developing their professional skills and talents through putting on an event that reflects them, and that they are proud of.
